This French early 20th Century folding screen is made up of four canvases entirely painted with textured tempera featuring a marine landscape view in full Louis XV style, reminiscences of romantic atmospheres with certain moods from the past.
The serene seascape is animated with characters and boats on an architectural scene with a perched castle and a harbor in the background.
This fine art decorative piece is signed J. de Greling, dating back to 1900 circa is inspired by 18th Century Italian views.
This screen can be used as an unusual room divider or it can also be hung on the wall to have a huge painting when fully unfolded.
It is an extremely decorative piece of furniture or fine artwork, presenting a wide variety of colors with relaxed and natural palette as well as a very lively touch.
The texture of the painting on the canvas and the attention to detail are exceptional as well as the finishing at the bottom with faux paneling achieved with a trompe l'oeil effect.
Each Canvas is mounted on wooden frames, hinged to allow total unfolding and fixed with upholstery nails.
Very good overall condition, minor wear considering age and use, stable painting, original patina.
Measures: H. 160 cm, W. 50 cm each panel.
