It is a beautiful portrait of a woman.

The artist was born in New York and he moved to Florence, Italy where he spent half his life.
This beautiful late 19th Century portait painting features a full-length female figure portrayed in a landscape with a luxuriant nature. The young semi-naked woman covered only by a transparen veil that reveals her forms, is holding a box in her hands. The subject of the painting is Pandora, the first human woman according to Greek mythology known for having opened a jar releasing all the evils of humanity.
The woman portrayed is very beautiful, has an angelic face and a sophisticated and elegant pose. The young woman is portrayed outdoors her delicate figure stands out on the dark background, barefoot and with her hair gathered, she is surrounded by fronds, leaves and flowers. The classical subject and the calm tones of this painting adapt well to any type of environment, a painting that attracts attention an eye-catching work of fine art beautiful to admire from different angles.
This oil painting on large rectangular canvas (H. 2 meters x 1 meter) is signed by the artist low left, the painter also hand wrote an inscription with his full name and the subject’s reference Pandora and put it on a sheet glued to the back of the frame, which fortunately is well preserved and readable.
The painting has recently been restored in a very professional way, the last photo shows the back of the canvas with some tears that have been restored. Fortunately the tears were not on the main figure but only around it. The tears have been healed by adding ancient canvas threads. We strongly wanted to preserve the original canvas that still retains the stamp of the fine art store that produced it and avoid placing the painting on a new canvas and the final result is extremely satisfactory.
Stephen Hills Parker (New York 1852- Florence, Italy 1925) was an American painter appreciated for portraits paintings. He was the pupil of Carolus Duran and friend of John Sargent, worked mostly in NYC, he moved to Italy first to Rome and then decided to settle in Florence. His artistic carreer is quite short, he stopped painting in 1911 when he was already in Florence where he died in 1925.

Condition Details
Professionally restored, Original canvas and patina, excellent overall condition.
