This beautiful pair of French late 19th century Neoclassical style carved marble columns or pedestals with lidded vases on top are very elegant, used in high end decoration and in the most exclusive palaces and castles in Europe as fancy décor element.
Both the columns and the vases are made of precious and beautiful red marble with white veneers throughout called Red of France. The vases are richly decorated with rams heads as handles and flowers, rosettes and leaves garlands that descend along the central body of the vase featuring a raw surface.
The contrast between the smoother and rougher marble’s grain creates a pleasant effect and highlights the carved low relief and the beautiful shape of the vases. The lidded vases rest on ionic fluted columns featuring volutes and egg and dart design to the capital.
