A stunning and original Chippendale style English 18th century honey and brown burr walnut veneer travelling dome top trunk beautifully carved and inlay, enriched with gilded and burnished bronze details centered by a brass high relief medallion.
This large and decorative treasure chest is finely inlaid with round geometrical patterns that frame several burnished bronze and gilded bronze applications throughout. The high quality raised and molded bronze casts applications show different symbols and dimensions, they are shaped as roses, foliate patterns, eagle and crowns and are a work of art itself.
This amazing travel chest boasts exceptional quality and condition for its age. As ornamental as it is functional, the cabinet is secured by beautifully handcrafted decorative bronze straps with domed rivet finish for added security, while two bronze handles on the lock box’s side allow for easy transportation. The case sits on a separate walnut base with hand carved cabriole legs ending with claw and ball feet.
This antique coffer made for mobility and ease looks amazing also inside, the lid is masterfully inlaid with burr rosewood and ebony marquetry with wind roses motifs.
In the center of this rare piece of furniture is an original oval brass plaque depicting an interior tavern scene in the manner of the Duch school. The scene is simple and informal full of characters, pottery, barrel, broom and a cat. The figures, wearing traditional Flemish dress, are sitting at a table enjoying themselves in a Tavern or Inn.
This fine work of art, plenty of history is now ready to be placed into a luxurious setting. Would make a good eye catcher both for shop display or home storage.
This blanket chest makes a visual statement no matter the room it is in.
